Stopping By

Monday, May 24th, 2004

So today was #14 in a row, at least the streak has to end at 19. Since I’ve been at work for just about all of my waking hours for the last 2 weeks there isn’t much today.

I did find this link from forbes.com. It lists the top Metros and smaller Metros in the country. The smaller metros list is pretty interesting. I moved from the #9 city to #8. I don’t have much desire to expore any of the places higher on that list. I don’t see how State College is one the list. If you look at Rochester as a ‘smaller city’ you get the idea, a downtown with some pretty tall buildings, it is like a mini-big city. State College is just a college town.

New IBM Servers

Monday, May 3rd, 2004

IBM annouced today their new servers that will be coming out next month. These are what I’ve been working on. If you want to know more I have some links. First ZDNN has a quick little article. If you think you know what you’re talking about then check out this one from the iSeries Network. Its surprising how much these things cost and what everything is called officially after we’ve had our own names for everything.

I have actually been working on my Spring Break Pictures and write ups. I still have a few days left to do so it could still be a little while. I have also been tweaking the main page, I need some comments on whether it works and what else it needs.

On occasion I will come across things that need to be known by a broader audience. This is one of those times where I make some of them known.

Music
Senses Fail – Somehow this band got lost in the mix because I’ve had their EP for a while now and just got their newest full length. The newer stuff is much more screamo. The EP is called From the Depths of Dreams.

Software
GAIM – I’d used gaim only in the computer labs so that I could use AIM from the Unix lab. I decided to try it again since I have all these messengers eating up my tray and ram. I would say that it is worth giving it a shot now. It does just about everything that AIM does as well as the nice features of middle_man, no ads, talking while away, logging. My favorite features are when you start up a conversation in the window it includes the previous conversation you’ve had with that person and you can read away messages by just putting your cursor over the screen name. Even if you only use AIM it’s worth it and if you use AIM along with MSN, Yahoo, or ICQ then you have to use it.

DVDs – These were my Netflix selections for the weekend. Each of them was very good.
Big Fish
Stuck on You
Ken Burns’ Baseball (Disc 1) – Covers baseball up to 1900, this is the stuff that is really interesting but you don’t know much about.
