Stupid Links

Saturday, July 24th, 2004

Here are a bunch of things to check out …

Friendster and MySpace, haven’t decided if these are cool or not and which is better. I know Friendster isn’t supposed to be cool anymore but thats just all those internet dorks. If you don’t know what they are, you put in your pictures and a profile of yourself and add your friends then you can see who your friends friends are and find other people who like the same stuff as you. So far I think its pointless, but if some people sign up then I can make a final judgement.

Plaxo, some of you probably got an email from me to update your contact info. This site keeps track of all your contacts and lets you send out emails asking people to update. Plus, you can sign up then when you change your info it automatically updates for whoever has you in their contact list. People were concerned about privacy when this first came out but now its pretty solid. It also syncs your contacts with Outlook, which is useless for me but might help some of you.

Firebird and Thunderbird, these are why I don’t use Internet Explorer or Outlook anymore. They aren’t even released yet and are already way better than either of those programs.

MSN Messenger, most people probably have this installed and don’t use it. I haven’t played with it much because there isn’t anyone on my buddy list for it. AIM is terrible as I’ve always said, but my Axim will be here in a few weeks and MSN Messenger is the main IM program on there so I will be using that exclusivly to start on my PDA.

So to summerize: sign up for friendster and myspace. Sign up for plaxo. Use MSN Messenger. Then let me know if you do any of them.

Week in Random #1

Monday, July 12th, 2004

During the week I think of some crazy, stupid stuff but a lot of the time no one is around to hear it then I don’t write it down. Last week I decided to start writing some of them down. Here are the few that I remembered. Just remember, I have to start with something.

There is a sport model of the Ford Windstar, if you have a mini-van you forfeit your right to any sort of sport.

90% of gas stations in Minnesota have car washes.

I’m surprised more SPAM doesn’t come from Jesus as the sender. You have to open it, don’t you? You never know.

After you buy a Honda Element, how long does it take to get sick of people pointing at you and saying, “Look honey, that’s the hideous car I was telling you about.”

#2 Most Tortured Sports City

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

Each week Cold Pizza counts down the Most Tortured Sports Cities. There are 15 on the list so this has been going on forever, plus they just took 2 weeks off for Wimbledon. Some info about Cold Pizza. Its the absolutely awful morning show on ESPN2. There are 4 hosts I had only ever heard of one of them before the show because she was on the first season of Road Rules. The only reason I ever watch is because I don’t like to vomit in my bed and ESPN Shorts, Hearsay, the Budweiser Hot Seat, and whatever other garbage ESPN things is better suited for SportsCenter than highlights.

Anyways I knew we were coming up this week since there were only 2 left, we can’t be #1. With each city you get a video montage, some people from the city on the show and then on espn.com Page 2 there are usually a few columns. Seeing Joe Carter hit the Home Run off Mitch pretty much ruined my day. The Phanatic joined DJ Jazzy Jeff in what was an All-Star panel representing Philly. The two articles were Sal Palantonio’s which just talks about being a Philly fan and The Top 10 Worst Moments. Now I know that Philly loves the Eagles but losing the way the Phillies did in 93 cannot be topped by a lost in a Conference Championship Game. In the next tier would be the last 2 NFC Championship Games along with the 64 Phillies. The Eagles games were rough since we should never have lost in the last game at the Vet and we should have never lost to Tampa in the cold. The Panthers should have been easily beaten and we should not have lost 3 chances to go to the Super Bowl in a row. The 64 Phillies is the same sort of deal since winning the division meant going to the World Series. To have it so wrapped up and then to lost 10 in a row, I can’t even imagine.

I think we should have been 3rd. Cleveland will be #1 on the Cold Pizza list, I would put them 2nd. First has to be Buffalo. They lost 4 straight Super Bowls. Just the Norwood kick in that first one is enough on its own to get into the Top 5. Then losing 3 after that, ouch. The Sabers lost the Stanley Cup on a blown call by the officials. And it snows a lot (which is why the Twin Cities would be 4th but the Metrodome and the teams help that ranking out).
