Ali G TNT Commericals

Saturday, November 12th, 2005

Best commercials on TV right now? The Ali G commercials for the NBA on TNT. If you haven’t see them then check them out. If you ever hang around with Matt and I at the same time then you will manage to pick up on a few bits from these ads that will make us seem less weird. Only slightly less, but that’s still less.

“There’s air in this room, how come this room ain’t bouncin?”

18 Year Old Mayor

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Saw this on Countdown last night. Keith actually had the kid on his show. Michael Sessions won the race for mayor in Hillsdale, MI. He defeated the 51-year old incumbent by 2 votes. Sessions was not 18 when it was required to register to be on the ballot so he actually ran a write-in campaign. He spent $700 on the campaign. I’ve heard of this happening quite a few times but the fact that it was a write-in campaign and so close makes this one so special. Apparently he even got to read the Top 10 last night on Letterman, Top Ten Good Things About Being An 18-Year-Old Mayor.

Don’t Get Too Excited for Polls

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Next year the PA Senate race is likely to get a lot of attention. At least that was the thinking but it could be a blowout before it even starts. Still, its a year off and not a good idea to get too excited. Interesting post at the Swing State Project with the latest Casey/Santorum poll numbers. Some other little nuggets there about if the Republicans are searching for someone to run against Santorum in the Primary, which is something my Mom had suggested might happen the other day. Also, don’t forget that Casey does have some Democratic challengers. Chuck Pennacchio is the leading challenger. I will be following this all very closely but way before Primary time I will be a Virginia resident.

Arrested Development Canceled

Friday, November 11th, 2005

In case you weren’t aware which of the broadcast networks has no idea what they are doing the answer is Fox. Most people already know this. They canceled Family Guy and Futurama a few years back but have kept a number of worthless shows and continue with their reality crap. I guess they need something to put on their Reality Channel. This time they’ve got and canceled Arrested Development. In my mind there isn’t even an argument that AD is the best show on TV. They cut this season’s order down to 13 episodes from 22, last year they cut it from 22 to 18. Only 5 have aired this season but knowing Fox you are going to have to do some hunting to find those last 8. Then they’ll come out on DVD and do huge numbers as usual. There is still a chance that a ton of people watch the rest of the episodes and they see their error. Really the only hope is that another channel picks it up, I’m looking in your direction HBO. Please, please, please.

Political Compass

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

Saw this on Daily Kos today. Take a look, check it out, take the test. I’ve seen others like this where they just throw you on a chart compared with current and historic political figures. This one pretty much just gives you some stats that let you compare.

My political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.28

The Word: T.O.

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

On Tuesday night’s Colbert Report The Word was ‘T.O.’ I’m not exactly sure how to link directly to the video but if you go to The Word video page you will easily find the T.O. video as well as all the other Words. Comedy Central recently launched Motherload, an online video channel. I’m not sure how it is or whats on there because Comedy Central has a very loose definition of a ‘launch’. It will not work on Mac at all and I tried loading it up on my laptop running Firefox 1.5 and it tells me that my browser is too old. Apparently Firefox 1.0.7 is newer than 1.5? Its amazing how clueless these companies are when it comes to the web.

The Wisconsin Weekend that Was

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

I’ve found that after actually going to Michigan for the PSU game that when referring to a weekend by the team we played that I have to mention that I did not actually go to that state but that I just went to State College for the weekend. Anyway to some of the important things I remember from the weekend.

Friday night was highlighted by my first time ice skating. No one can believe this but it is in fact truth. Its even harder to believe because I love hockey so much and always wanted to play when I was younger. So why now? What provoked me to risk my life? Valerie is to blame. She is taking ice skating and has to go to some open skate nights to make up absences. She roped some other people into going as well. Pam, Jeff, and Carl all knew what they were doing. Kevin was a first-timer. He spent all of his time holding on to the side. That is until Jeff rented a walker for him. Then he just wandered around the ice and occasionally had some hop-ons when little kids held on for a ride before realizing they were better off skating on their own. I got a small handle of the ice skating deal and didn’t hold on to the wall after the first little bit when I stepped onto the ice. I’m sorry, are you still hung up on the walker? If you are curious you should take a look at Valerie’s pictures from the weekend, I think you’ll spot Kevin and his dear walker. I didn’t even fall, although I think I get credit for a fall when Valerie and I thought we were going different ways and wound up losing our balance and she went down. Besides my feet and ankles being in severe pain when it was all over I had a good time.

After ice skating we went to Eat ‘n Park, I apparently say it wrong and I probably have the apostrophe in the wrong place and I don’t care about either count. What to say about this adventure … I am pretty disappointed I didn’t have my notebook handy. Some things I remember: we found in the menu that baby food was free upon request, Kevin asked what kind they had, Robert, our server, came back with banana and a dollar if Kevin ate it. The menu had no restrictions on to who could get this free baby food or how much they could get. Really, a homeless person could get along just fine taking advantage of the free baby food policy. I mentioned that on the menu they should say you must have a house in order to get free baby food. We wound up ordering all sorts of random things and leaving a tip of roughly 50%. But if you are ever at Eat ‘n Park, just ask for Robert. The rest of the evening involved a game of Trivial Pursuit which will not be discussed because some of us have college degrees that we’d rather not have revoked. Oh, and lots of Scrubs. Scrubs is so great.

No tailgating before this game. That was a negative and a positive. I had such a great time at the tailgate the week before I would not have been able to pass it up. However getting up at 6:30am proved to be a little early when staying out past 1am (and that was after we fell back). For the game our seats were in the first row of the upper section. Right in front of us we had a railing and the walk way where everyone came in. The railing was great for standing on and for leaning against to reach down to high five the people down the row. The walkway proved exciting as well since we saw everyone coming in and all sorts of people that you know, which was even more exciting for people that know people. We of course dominated and are a win away from the Big Ten title. For the evening there was a party at another Aerospace girl’s apartment. Within minutes of getting there someone comes up and asks if I know him. I have a slight feeling of who it is but that would just be too random. Turns out its Andrew Speck. For those who do not go back to the North Penn days (actually early North Penn days) we went to Gwyn-Nor together and carpooled most of those years and did all sorts of things together.

So there is a totally Xanga-like entry which I haven’t done too much of lately. I guess its what the Greenwich site was way back when. Sorry to bore you all but someday I will look back and remember this weekend and smile. Plus, I realized last year that the target audience for posts like this is me for when I go back and read them.

What Do I Browse?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

I’ve been using Camino as my main browser for a few weeks now. Under the Bookmarks it keeps track of your Top 10 most visited sites. Its actually kind of interesting to see out of all my bookmarks which I click on the most. I’m not sure if they figure this out and I’m pretty sure they aren’t in any sort of order.

My Top 10 (in alphabetical order):
AbsolutePunk.net
Daily Kos
digg
Engadget
ESPN.com
Fark
Flickr
Philly.com
Sports Illustrated
and my site

Some of them make sense. When I’m working on my site I reloading a ton to make sure the changes work correctly in all the different browsers. If I had to pick the ones I go to the most it would probably be pretty close between Digg and Engadget. They are both constantly updated throughout the day (digg is user driven so is always adding stuff) so I check back with them very often. I’ll try and keep track of these and try to figure out more about how the list works.
