Week in Email #3

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Once again the email made it to new highs this week. I moved it to a Google Group so that I wasn’t filling up the inboxes of people who have better things to do but still want to keep up with the discussion. This move may have contributed to most of the emails being blocked for everyone at LM. We are currently up to 24 members. The group is always expanding so let me know if you or someone you know would like to be added.

Week in Email #2

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

A second full week of emails and discussion. This was the first full week of song lyrics being in the subject and the first guesses started to come in. This week there were also some new subscribers. Its possible this week I may actually start a job so I’ll have to deal with that if it comes.

Top Music

I didn’t do my most played songs list because I thought that would be the only thing on here, would that be better than nothing? Since I’ve been in a posting mood and there is a lot of snow outside I thought I’d post my currently list. I looked back and the last time I did it was November 29th.

1. Straylight Run – The Tension and the Terror
2. Yellowcard – Finish Line
3. Fall Out Boy – Of All the Gin Joints in All the World
Hit the Lights – Loose Lips Sink Ships
Something Corporate – Watch the Sky
The Starting Line – Surprise, Surprise
7. The Acadamy Is … – Attention
Cartel – Hey, Don’t Stop
Fall Out Boy – XO
Hawthorne Heights – Ohio is for Lovers
Jack’s Mannequin – Into the Airwaves
Rise Against – Swing Life Away
Straylight Run – Existentialisn on Prom Night

2+ months later and the list isn’t all that much different. I listened to The Tension and the Terror so much in a short span it likely won’t be caught for some time.

Week in Email

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

I started my daily emails of stuff I find during the day and anything I might think of. It really started on Monday because there were a few Super Bowl related details to discuss. There wound up being 13 emails that day with Matt, Caitlin, Ahad, Dave, Janos, Kelli, and Evan all contributing. It added some much needed excitement to the day. There wasn’t as much of a response to my emails the rest of the week, but even a little bit is enough. Here a look back. I’ve removed some stuff and added some notes. If you don’t currently receieve the daily email and would like to be added to the list then let me know. You know you want to, no one has asked to be removed (that’s likely because they don’t want to hurt my feelings).

You Mean the Super Bowl was a Week Ago?

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

I had meant to put this up Monday night. I think I went to bed at 8:30 that night and didn’t remember the rest of the week. Here are my thoughts from Monday morning about the Super Bowl as well as Matt’s response. You may see these again, on Matt and my sports writer resumes.

Internet Radio

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

To get through the day at work I’ve turned to my headphones. I’ve jumped back into the world of streaming audio. Previously at IBM, when I was allowed in my cube where I had a Windows machine (AIX is not an ideal multimedia OS), I would listen to Al Franken and Idobi Radio. Now I’ve got the whole day to fill, here is what I’ve found so far.

Whats Next for JankeWeb

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

I don’t really have a plan for what I’m going to do with this site or any others. I have some hopes. I hope that I will come up with some random things to write about on this page. I always come up with random things that I don’t take the time to write down. My first focus for those has been to tell them to someone. I always like writing about technology related things. I moved them off of this page and was all set to do a bunch of different articles but since work started I haven’t wanted to stare at a computer screen any more than I had to and my mind has also been able to focus on anything 100%. I’m still looking for that idea. I’ve had some smaller ones but nothing that I’ve liked enough to finish completely. I have one that I want to go back to just to finish and see if I can get a few friends to try it out to find out if its worthwhile. I’d still also like to do a podcast or vidcast but getting in the way of that is finding an idea and then finding people willing to do it.

An Update, About Me

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

Since graduation things have been, well, different. I didn’t spend time here posting about my job because I spent as little time as possible talking about my job. I didn’t want to think about how long it was going to be before I started and I wasn’t excited about moving to DC. I also haven’t ever spent a lot of time on here posting about my personal life. (You ask, there was one before this?) I’ve never liked when other people went on and on about their relationships in a public way. I talk more than enough about it with a small number of people. I’m sure they have been sick of me these past few weeks.

I didn’t want the job thing to get me down. I didn’t feel like I had much say in the matter so I went about my life the best I knew how until it was time to move to DC. I can’t remember back to the summer and how I got through it with nothing to do. I watched just about every Phillies game and people were home so I did things occasionally. The fall came and I started going to the Penn State games. I missed the first two to go to Phillies games (including one at RFK). I wound up at five home games, the game at Michigan, and the Orange Bowl. An 11-1 season made my fall fly by. Too fast. The first weekend I went up (the Central Michigan game) I met Valerie at the Saloon, after managing to not meet her in the 6 semesters over the 4 years that we had both been attending the school and both being friends with Matt. Between her and the games I wound up being in State College 8 weekends during the semester. Plus I had my phone to keep me company during the week.

Things have seemed to even out over the past months. When the job situation wasn’t going so well I had PSU football and Valerie to make me glad I had no other responsibilities. It would have been nice to have an income, but any one of those weekends early on I could have said that I was too tired or couldn’t get off of work to go up and things would have happened completely differently.

Then I started working in King of Prussia, with no actual position but they brought me in anyway. I begged to be here instead of going to DC, it was the same sort of temporary thing in both places. The second day I had an interview for a job I wound up getting. I will get to work in King of Prussia and live at home. Really that was my only goal when I started looking for a job. Something that would keep me interested, pay me, and let me live at home. Things couldn’t be better, right? Valerie started her job a few days after me. Exactly the job she wanted too, couldn’t be any better. Except for the fact that its located in Seattle. So that was it. We knew it was coming all along but it was surprisingly easy to push that to the back and pretend it wasn’t happening. It was amazing while it lasted.

I guess I could be happy that at least something is going right and it isn’t all bad. But why can’t it be all good? Hopefully it will be soon.
