MakeDamnSure
2006 is half over. That’s pretty scary. I was thinking about a 1st half of the year review and how horrible 2006 has been so far. I decided to think about the good things that have happened so far this year. Nobody wants to hear about the bad things anymore. Anyone who has talked to me over the past six months has been inundated with my stories. As much as I do love to tell a good story, this is not the place for those. Surprisingly its been a good year, I swear.
I went to a bowl game. I got a job. I met a bunch of new people. I started the Daily Email. I have a new goal. I have the time and freedom to do pretty much whatever I want.
That’s not a bad list.
Four years of college and no bowl trips. Sophomore year we all said, “Let’s not go this year, we have two more bowls to go to.” Biiiig mistake. This trip was amazing and if you read through this whole email you will get a taste of the awesomeness. Even as awesome as the video is the trip was even awesomer than that. Can you believe that? Awesome.
Talk about stress. I had every last ounce of hope squeezed out of me at work this year. You got a job. You need to get cleared again. You don’t have a job. Want to go to Dayton? No. Endicott? No. DC? No. San Jose? Yes, please. Owego? I’ll check it out, what options do I have left. Luckily my job came out of no where and I didn’t have to Owego. Although I wish San Jose would have called. Some good did come of all this. I met a ton of people. From all my TRC buds to countless managers. Every manager likely saw my resume multiple times.
Sometimes I forget how amazing the Daily Email was. Even now, when I go over to check my email throughout the day I hope that someone has responded with something and that a whole bunch of people are also excited that they have received a message. During its peak it was something special. Every once in a while I see sparks of its former glory but without email at my desk it won’t make it back to its’ former greatness. However, there are still some ways to utilize its power. Soon.
The last point is the key. I need to use my time. The life goal doesn’t really matter if I find something else that I want to do. With this time I want to follow through on some of my ideas and experiment with a few new things. Slow down with your imaginations. Experiment to me is likely much different from what it means to you. I’m not going to start drinking, doings drugs, or jumping out of planes. To me it would be learning a new programming language or getting better at video and audio editing. It doesn’t have to be on the computer. My guitar hasn’t been touched for a long while, I have no idea how to play it. I need to get in some sort of shape. I need to run, swim, do something outside. I certainly won’t be joining a gym, just not for me. Plus, we all know what happened the last time I went to the gym. Next summer hopefully I’ll play baseball. I could go even crazier. I could read, or even write. I actually write quite a bit. You all get to see it. Its all focused on emails like this now, but if I got the motivation I have all sorts of other ideas. If I just recorded myself talking all day then I think there are a few volumes right there.
I do have a lot of things to legitimately complain about but its time to look forward. I’ll do my best to complain about some new things. I’m just as good at complaining about meaningless crap.
Things of interest …
Last week I asked if anyone had a microphone or headset connected to their computer. It wasn’t for me. I have that covered. I wanted to know which of you had one. I want to at least try Skype or Gizmo to see what all the fuss is about. There are some other reasons as well … but we’ll get to those.
Movies
See Inconvenient Truth. An excellent documentary. Going in I was really tired and figured I would fall asleep during the sideshow. It kept my attention the whole time. Its really well done.
See Grandma’s Boy. The previews for this were terrible. Its pretty awesome. Off the wall ridiculous.
See Superman Returns, if you really want to. It was a little longer than it needed to be. We also went on a Sunday afternoon so there were lots of unruly kids. I think I’m really done with these superhero movies.
